Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 23, 2026
1. Introduction
Shelf Snitch (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is a mobile application that helps you evaluate products before purchasing. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the Shelf Snitch app and related services (collectively, the “Service”).
By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
2. Information We Collect
- Camera & Photos: When you scan a product, the app accesses your camera or photo library solely to identify the product. Images are processed for product recognition and are not permanently stored on our servers unless you choose to save a scan in your history (paid plans).
- Scan Data: Product names, scores, verdicts, and related analysis results associated with your scans. On the Free plan, this data is stored only on your device. On paid plans, scan history may be stored securely in association with your account.
- Device Information: Device type, operating system version, unique device identifiers, and app version for analytics, crash reporting, and service improvement.
- Usage Data: How you interact with the app (features used, scan frequency) in aggregate form to improve the Service.
- Purchase Information: If you subscribe to a paid plan, Apple processes the payment. We receive confirmation of subscription status but do not store your payment card details.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To provide and improve the product identification and analysis features
- To deliver price comparisons, review summaries, and alerts
- To maintain and sync your scan history (paid plans)
- To process subscriptions and manage entitlements
- To diagnose technical issues and improve reliability
- To comply with legal obligations
4. Data Storage & Security
Free-tier scans remain on your device. Paid-plan history is stored using industry-standard encryption in transit and at rest. We take reasonable measures to protect your information, but no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
5. Third-Party Services
We use trusted third-party services for AI product recognition, price data, analytics, and crash reporting. These providers only process data necessary to perform their functions and are bound by contractual confidentiality obligations. We do not sell your personal information.
6. Your Choices & Rights
- You can delete scan history from within the app at any time.
- You can revoke camera and photo library permissions in your device Settings.
- You may request deletion of any account-associated data by contacting us.
- Depending on your location, you may have additional rights under applicable privacy laws (e.g., CCPA, GDPR).
7. Children’s Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected such information, we will delete it promptly.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the new policy in the app or on this page and updating the “Last updated” date.
